Bonus-Malus is a system according to which the insurance premium defined in the CMTPL contract is calculated based on the insurance history of the driver (authorized owner and/or the Insured). Discounts are given to disciplined drivers and additional premiums to drivers who have accidents.
The system has been in force since January 1, 2013.
How is the Bonus-Malus class determined?
Application of Bonus-Malus system for Insureds with a single vehicle
When you are insured for the first time, you have class 10 (100%).If 365 days have passed since the date of the last recalculation of the Insured’s Bonus-Malus class, and in this period the Insured had a valid CMTPL contract and no CMTPL accidents, as a result of which compensation was provided to a third party within the scope of that contract, he/she receives 1 class as a bonus.
Let's say you have class 10 and have had a valid CMTPL contract for 365 days. If during that time no compensation was given to a third party within the scope of the CMTPL contract concluded with you, then you get 1 class as a bonus and appear in class 9 (the insurance premium is reduced by 3%).
In the event that there is an accident during the validity period of the CMTPL contract concluded with the Insured, as a result of which compensation is provided to a third party within the scope of that contract, the Insured receives a malus for each such case, depending on the amount of this compensation.
The following malus classes are applied depending on the amount of compensation subject to payment for the damage caused by the motor vehicle specified in the contract concluded with the Insured:
|Amount of Compensation (in AMD)||Malus Class Applied|
|Up to 100,000||3 classes|
|More than 1,800,001||8 classes|
Suppose you are in class 7 and within the scope of your CMTPL contract there was 1 accident, as a result of which the insurance company paid compensation to a third party in the amount of 100,000 AMD. In this case, you receive malus in the amount of 3 classes and appear in class 10 (the insurance premium increases by 9%).
Suppose you are in class 10 and within the period of your CMTPL contract there was 1 accident, as a result of which the insurance company compensated a third party with more than 1,800,001 AMD. In this case, you receive a malus in the amount of 8 classes and appear in class 18 (insurance premium increases by 100%).
If you have a malus class and have not had an insured accident for at least 4 consecutive years that would result in compensation because of you or the person who was driving your car(s), then your malus class is zeroed out (i.e. you appear again in class 10).
